Ding Dong?

Ding Dong?

We have just had some great recommendations from our friend Andy who has been motorhoming around Cornwall this last week. He has just got back from a cycling trip where he rode his bike from Rochester, Kent to Beaugency in the Loire Valley in France. But this time he actually got some better weather by going to Cornwall. He has mostly been seeing friends who live in Zennor, a small village near St Ives, but we got him to look at a couple of campsites too.

So what was so good about Zennor? Well for a start Andy liked The Tinners Arms pub, Moomaid Ice Cream and Mermaid Ale. But being a great outdoors sort of chap, he took his bike with him and did a lot of cycling (he doesn’t mind hills!) and loved the coastline especially around the St just and Porthmeor areas. Andy just chose to use the motorhome as his base and then did all his touring by bike.

Andy chose a Chausson Flash 02 motorhome for his trip. He said “The Chausson Flash 02 was the ideal motorhome to hire for my trip as it was only myself sleeping in the motorhome, which meant I had a lovely double bed to myself. I wasn’t planning on doing much touring in the motorhome once I was in Cornwall, but all the same I wanted something that was economical and easy to drive. To be honest I could have got away with a much smaller motorhome, but the motorhome hire fee was cheap enough so I thought I would just go with the Flash 02.  I had looked into hiring motorhomes before, but I was always a bit wary about driving something large which worried me. I was delighted to find out that this motorhome was as easy to drive as it was to hire. It has a 6 speed gearbox which is a total luxury when you get on the open road. I did a lot of the journey down from Hertfordshire by motorway, which was great as I just set the cruise control and relaxed.” Andy had a great week cycling around the area, “I was stunned by how superb the weather was in Cornwall, the sea air and a break from busy towns did me no end of good. I love the funny names of places in Cornwall, ‘Ding Dong’ was my favourite!”.

Andy stayed at Trevalgan first and then moved onto Hellesveor Farm site later on in the week. Andy said, “both sites were excellent with perfect pitches for a peaceful motorhome holiday, I think families would prefer Trevalgan, but both sites are still good. I liked the Hellesveor site because it was so easy to just walk into St Ives of an evening for a drink, it was little cheaper there too. I love the live music at The Tinners Arms in Zennor, but St Ives is great too if you fancy somewhere a bit livelier.”

Trevalgan Touring Park is 2 miles from St. Ives and is very peaceful. It is set as it is between granite hills and the gorgeous coastline. Although the site is very much in the countryside, you can easily get to St. Ives town centre and its beaches. From June until mid September a regular bus service runs to St. Ives and back from June until mid-September.

Hellesveor is much smaller than Trevalgan and is set around a farm. It is only one mile from St Ives on the Land’s End road. If you aren’t planning on driving much when you are there it is only five minutes from the bus route and coastal path. If you are into spectacular countryside walks, Hellesveor is an ideal base for touring around West Cornwall.
